I rather enjoyed this weekend. Got to meet new people, hang out with coworkers and friends, get dressed up, and sacrifice sleep for a good cause. Check it out.....
FRIDAY
Started working on Fridays now. If you're not making money, then you're losing it. Right? Work was cool though. I got paid to iron clothes. Well, I ironed transfers onto t-shirts for the Rotary Fun Run. After work, I met up with Aaron, my favorite Australia and local guide, to get some new threads for the ball that was on Saturday. That night I was supposed to meet a coworker in the Valley, but that didn't happen. Instead I hung out with a new friend from Kenya (pictured below) and we ended up at some random costume party where I met a cute little thang from Chile (also pictured below) Great night of absolutely free fun! No pictures though and you know why (update-found a clean one) .... :-PCabana boy getup |
SATURDAY
It was amazing. There were so many beautiful people looking classy. I really felt like I was doing something important with some very classy people (students who probably had no money at all). I attended the ball with Allie, Landon and Mandy. Then we met up with our mate Josh who studied at USC last semester. I met a few new nice people, who I'd like to hang out again with in the near future.
At the ball we were entertained with performances from gypsy dances and singers, a modern dance group, a very talented circus act (that I can't remember the name of) who hung from the ceiling and displayed super human strength and flexibility. We were wined and dined with a two course meal of chicken and lamb. The party got stated when the band performed though. Their sounds was very cool. I can't explain it though. Next up was the DJ. Things got crazy then. Very good but rather expensive night out on the town.
SUNDAY
Started very early, 6:15AM to be exact. Picked up by a coworker and her partner, we headed to Griffith Mt. Gravatt campus to meet the rest of the gang who signed up to participate in the charity event. The Rotary International organized their annual Fun Run to support Autism Queensland. As we have a program that raises improves the social skills of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those who just find it hard making and keeping friends, we wanted to support their efforts. (check out the nice news story about our program that aired this week here)It was a beautiful morning for walking 7k. Earlier in the week I did a practice walk (yes I needed a practice walk) and it took 1:32:55. This morning I completed the run in 1:13:04. I know, I know big improvements. I probably go back around 10AM. Feeling very productive and proud of my accomplishments for the day, I decided to reward myself with sleep for the next seven hours.
I'm very thankful for this weekend of new friendships, good works and rest! Time for bed so that I can begin another week.
