Took A Trip To The Top!

Did my first real "bush walk" in Australia. Went to the mountain top with my fellow African brothers (don't laugh) and had a blast doing it. Saw some worms and the city lights at night. Experience it for yourself below. They're plenty of pictures this time. Read on...
Mt. Tamborine

It was to be an early morning today. The plan was that each of us (Ahmed of Egypt and Jay of Kenya) would leave at 8:00AM sharp from urbanest to go pick up the rental car. That wasn't the case. For once, I was ready on time. Unfortunately, I learned something. "Not only are African Americans in the United States known for being on CP time, but Africans of any kind follow CP time as well I suppose." I think that it was about 8:30AM or so when those two goons made it downstairs. I made use of the extra time by calling my uncle back home, so it was fine.

Eventually, we made it to pick up the rental car around 9:00AM. Before we could leave though, we needed to stop and get cash from the ATM. Only problem was that we weren't sure where the ATM was. A combination of walking, getting lost, and stopping at McDonalds for a quick breakfast pushed our departure time to about 10:00AM. It happens..

It was nice to ride somewhere in a car other in a bus or train. Haven't done that in a while. Just a couple of guys headed to the mountain. Ya know, real manly ish (besides that fact that we were headed there in a small punk ass Toyota). Anyways, we got there about an hour or so later.

We first came up to a viewing point on the side of the road. The view (image at top) was pretty nice. Took a few pics and then moved on. In order to get to Mt. Tamborine we used the GPS on our phones. Only problem is what address do you put in? Beats me too... Ended up finding an entrance to a rainforest walk somehow though and that's what we did.

The walk through the woods was a lot of fun actually. I legit felt like I was stranded in some tropical part of Australia. Jay was our Kenyan tour guide who would point out all the flora fauna that we observed. Of course he didn't know what the heck he was talking about, but it sounded legit with his accent. During our excursion, we talked about the video below. Jay sounds very similar to that guy, so it was a cool commentary.

While bushwalking (hiking in Aussie) I didn't come across any cobras, but I did have an encounter with a leech. I'm not sure which is worse. It was a very damp trail that we were on, so at one point I went to grab the mud that got into my sock to find that it was a blood sucking leech! WTH! Fortunately, I got it before it started sucking away. People who know me best, know that I don't do well with bugs and what not so since that point moving forward I was on high alert while walking in the bush.

We ened up getting out of the bush in a different part of town than we started, so we found some food and then made it back to the car hours later. The next part of the trip was to the glow worm exhibit. Now, I imagined going to a glow worm cave to be some prehistoric cave filled with glowing worms. I know, both cool and creepy at the same time. Turns out it was a man-made cave with transported worms. It was still cool though. There were little glowing dots all around this extremely dark cave.

After the glow worm cave, we headed back to Brisbane. We went a faster route that was actually more scenic in my opinion.

Changed clothes and rested for a bit back at urbanest. Then we picked up some ladies, Mandy and Esperanza, and headed to Mt. Cootha for dinner because having dinner with all guys on Mt. Cootha is a bit weird. Mt. Cootha is about 15 minutes away from my place if you don't get lost like we did. I had never been before, so I had no idea what to think of it. The views were amazing though. See for yourself...

Goodnight,

Interesting FACT Time

  1. Ahmed is from Egypt.
  2. In Egypt, they drive on the same side of the road as we do in the US.
  3. Ahmed never drove on the left side of the road from the left side of the car.
  4. I trusted Ahmed to drive me on the highway about an hour or so away up a steep mountain.
  5. The car had a broken radio, so I entertained Ahmed and Jay with my vocal talents (doesn't exist)
  6. I'm happy to be alive still.
